Sexual assault prevention
Prevention of sexual assault
We provide a number of initiatives and programs that contribute towards preventing and responding to sexual violence. Our prevention work addresses the various forms of sexual violence including sexual assault, sexual harassment, technology facilitated sexual violence and youth sexual violence.
We can offer standalone sexual violence workshops or as sexual violence often overlaps with family violence and sexual health, we can also offer blended programs and workshops to meet you or your group’s needs. As young people, especially young women, are at increased risk of experiencing sexual violence, the majority of our workshops are targeted at the age group 14-25 years. We educate people from schools, tertiary educational institutes, workplaces and correctional facilities throughout the Midwest. We also offer professional development on various topics, including how to respond to a disclosure of sexual assault and gender norms in relationships.
In 2019 we provided:-
- Sexual Assault prevention workshops at Midwest high schools and educational institutions. Topics included –
- Consent and coercion
- Alcohol and consent
- Gender norms
- Exposure to pornography
- Sexual assault professional development workshops with health staff
- Sexual harassment in the workplace workshops with Midwest organisations and businesses
