Media Release, 2 February 2026.

Thanks to a State Labor Government commitment, two Mid West organisations are now better equipped to support their communities, with SHINE receiving a brand new bus and Desert Blue Connect welcoming a new Mazda CX-5 SUV.

The vehicles were delivered as part of a Labor state election commitment, supported by Sandra Carr MLC, Member for the Agricultural Region.

Desert Blue Connect CEO Russell Pratt said the new Mazda CX-5 has already made a significant difference to the organisation’s ability to deliver services across the region.

“The new vehicle is ideal for regional travel and allows us to do more outreach work across the North Midlands, Meekatharra and Carnarvon, particularly in women’s health and family and domestic violence support,” Mr Pratt said.

“It’s also helping us deliver new projects in these areas. Since receiving the $40,000 vehicle in October, we’ve already clocked up more than 20,000 kilometres of regional travel, which really highlights the demand for our services.”

SHINE General Manager Jenna Denton said the organisation’s new bus has been a timely and much-needed upgrade for the growing not-for-profit.

“Our bus is used weekly to transport students to and from community events and engagement activities, supporting their active participation beyond the classroom.” Ms Denton said.

“As we begin 2026 with nearly 200 students in our programs, this upgrade has removed significant financial pressure for us. Our previous bus, while a valued donation, was no longer able to reliably meet the needs of our growing program and was mechanically nearing retirement.”

SHINE took delivery of a new 12-seat Toyota HiAce Commuter in August 2025, representing an $82,500 investment.

“We’re extremely grateful for the investment that will ensure safe, dependable, and airconditioned transport for our staff and students across the region,” Ms Denton said.
The bus also features custom artwork designed by SHINE students, with support from a young Yamatji artist and Mid West Wind Farm.

“The artwork reflects our strong connection to the Mid West community,” Ms Denton said.
Both organisations say the new vehicles will strengthen their ability to deliver vital services, support participation, and connect with communities across the region.
