Installation of Dignity Vending Machine at Desert Blue Connect’s New Women’s Wellness Centre in Geraldton

Desert Blue Connect is thrilled to announce the installation of a Dignity Vending Machine at their newly established Women’s Wellness Centre located at 26 Durlacher Street, Geraldton. This initiative aims to provide free and accessible menstrual products to vulnerable and low-income women in the community.

Recognising the urgent need to address period poverty and ensure menstrual health is prioritised, Desert Blue Connect has partnered with Share the Dignity, an organisation dedicated to assisting women in need, to bring the Dignity Vending Machine to the Women’s Wellness Centre.

Lisa Boase, Sexual Health Nurse at Desert Blue Connect, expresses her enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce the Dignity Vending Machine at our Women’s Wellness Centre. This installation reflects our commitment to supporting women’s health and empowerment. Access to menstrual products is not only a matter of hygiene but also one of dignity and equality. With the installation of the Dignity Vending Machine, we aim to break down barriers and ensure that all women have access to essential menstrual products, regardless of their financial situation.”

Lisa Boase further highlights the importance of menstrual health and hygiene, stating, “Menstruation is a natural and essential part of a woman’s life, and it is crucial that we create an environment where women can manage their periods safely and with dignity. By providing free and easily accessible menstrual products through the Dignity Vending Machine, we are empowering women to take control of their health and well-being.”

The Dignity Vending Machine is discreetly located within the Women’s Wellness Centre’s bathrooms, ensuring women can access the products comfortably and privately. By providing free menstrual products, Desert Blue Connect aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by homeless and vulnerable women, enabling them to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity.

These vending machines operate with a simple and user-friendly mechanism. Upon entering the designated restroom, women will find the Dignity Vending Machine stocked with a variety of menstrual products, including sanitary pads and tampons. To access the products, they can follow these easy steps:

  1. Locate the Dignity Vending Machine within the bathroom.
  2. Press the button to dispense a period pack, which contains six tampons and two pads.
  3. The period pack will be dispensed, ready for use.

This installation at the Women’s Wellness Centre marks the third Dignity Vending Machine in Geraldton, with the other two machines located at Geraldton Central TAFE and Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service. Together, these machines aim to ensure that menstrual products are readily available to those who need them most throughout the community.

The installation of the Dignity Vending Machine at the Women’s Wellness Centre underscores the commitment to empowering women and creating a society where menstrual health is no longer a barrier to well-being.
