Desert Blue Connect unveiled its new Women’s Wellness Centre in Geraldton last night (Wednesday, March 8) to coincide with International Women’s Day 2023.
The Women’s Wellness Centre is a holistic women’s health hub that will provide a range of low cost and bulk billing health services for the prevention, treatment, and management of women’s health related issues.
The Women’s Wellness Centre is located at 26 Durlacher Street Geraldton, next door to the Desert Blue Connect main office.
Luke Bayley Desert Blue Connect Chair said, “I am thrilled to see the vision for Desert Blue Connect’s Women’s Wellness Centre now come to life.”
“Opening the new Women’s Wellness Centre is a major achievement for Desert Blue Connect and a huge step forward in providing women and girls in our community with access to bulk-billed wrap-around health services” he said.
The opening event was attended by 70 people, which comprised of Desert Blue Connect staff and board members, representatives of local partner organisations, along with prestigious guests Lara Dalton MLA, Sandra Carr MLC, and Dr Alison Evans CEO of the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing in Perth.
A thoughtful Welcome to Country was given from Amangu Wajarri woman Rhodda Capewell, who spoke of the tenacity of Aboriginal women and the many traditional roles of Aboriginal women.
A purple ribbon representing International Women’s Day was then cut together by Sandra Carr MLC and Lara Dalton MLA at the doorway of the new centre to symbolise the formal opening.
Guest were then offered the first walk through and look inside of the Women’s Wellness Centre.
The Women’s Wellness Centre will be officially open to the community within the next week and community members are able to call Desert Blue Connect now on 08 99642742 to make appointments in advance.
