Purple tables, costumes, laughter, and friendly competition filled the QE2 Centre last Friday night in Geraldton as almost 200 people joined Desert Blue Connect for a sold-out International Women’s Day Quiz Night. The night was all about celebrating women’s achievements and raising vital funds, with the $9000 raised going straight to support local women’s health and safety programs.

The quiz focused entirely on women’s contributions across history, entertainment, sport and general knowledge, giving teams a chance to show off their smarts while having a great time. Guests embraced the purple theme, decorating their tables and dressing up, making the room buzz with energy. There were also raffles, spot prizes, a silent auction and entertainment to keep everyone smiling throughout the evening.

MC Meegan Taylor, Business Services Manager at Desert Blue Connect, kicked off the night by welcoming everyone.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people here tonight coming together to celebrate, connect and have a bit of fun along the way,” Ms Taylor said. “International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of women across our communities and around the world, while also acknowledging that there is still work to do to ensure women and girls everywhere have equal opportunities to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.”

Kirrilee Warr MLA, Member for Geraldton, spoke about leadership and the difference everyday actions make in the community.

“When I look around this room I recognise so many people doing wonderful things through small actions, and that is what I think leadership is,” Ms Warr said. “Whether you’re a mother, a businesswoman, working in an organisation such as Desert Blue Connect, volunteering, participating in a sporting organisation, just by stepping up and doing those daily acts of small actions, are actually leading to greater good.”

Guest speaker Dr Sara Armitage reflected on the resilience and capability she has seen in women through her work.

“My work has shown me just how much women are capable of,” Dr Armitage said. “I’ve seen women through the highest moments of their lives and some of the lowest, and it has been an absolute honour to be beside them.”

Natasha Colliver, Deputy Mayor, City of Greater Geraldton, also spoke about the generosity and strength women show in families and communities.

All the funds raised from the night have gone directly to Desert Blue Connect’s programs supporting women’s health, safety, and wellbeing across the region.

Desert Blue Connect thanked everyone who attended, donated prizes, volunteered their time, and helped make the night such a fun and meaningful celebration.
