Desert Blue Connect were busy during National Families Week in May with two main events.
The Midwest Early Year’s Network hosted a free public event during Families Week in May at Wandina Primary School. 15 interactive and educational activity stations for children were provided by local organisations and businesses. Community Initiatives Officers from Desert Blue Connect facilitated activities that were attended by approximately 350 children, parents and caregivers. Children enjoyed colouring in characters from the protective behaviours story “Wibbly the Wombat” which education on persistence, safe people to talk to and not giving up when you need to talk to someone. Children made a puppet to take home and read along with the story, enabling families to open conversations with children about their safety.
Desert Blue Connect also celebrated with a big breakfast for students and family members at Rangeway Primary School on Tuesday May 21st. Over 200 students and their families attended the event which was collaboratively run by DBC, Aboriginal Family Law Services, PCYC, Mission Australia and Ngala Midwest-Gascoyne. Students enjoyed a hearty m eal before class and families benefited from precious time with their little ones. There were smiles and full bellies all around!
