Celebrating NAIDOC and Yamaji people, history and traditions of the land we work on

Last Friday, Edith Cowan Square came alive with people, colourful artwork, poetry, story telling, music, a traditional smoking ceremony and lots of delicious traditional Aboriginal inspired food to celebrate NAIDOC Week in Geraldton.

Desert Blue Connect had a small activities tent at the event where we invited the community to help us paint a large mural to represent the 2021 NAIDOC theme ‘Heal Country’, have a yarn with us and participate in a women’s health survey.

Taking time as an organisation to celebrate NAIDOC and Yamaji people, history and traditions of the land we work on was really special and important – we had a great time!

The free community event was hosted by the Department of Justice, in partnership with members of the Justice & Community Network, which includes Desert Blue Connect. See more photo’s from the day…
