Community, Respect & Equality Program Coordinator – Full time

The Role:

The Community, Respect and Equality (CRE) program is seeking a dedicated and innovative Program Coordinator to lead the drive for the prevention of family violence in Geraldton. A primary prevention project, the successful applicant will have the relevant qualifications, project management experience and strong community engagement skills to build the capacities of people in diverse sectors and settings to say no to family violence and to take that message into the community as a whole.

Desert Blue Connect has been leading the (CRE) Strategic Action Plan for the prevention of family violence in Geraldton since 2017 and now seeks a dedicated Program Coordinator to progress it through the next phase. It is a collaborative, community-based project which aims to prevent family violence and violence against women and children. The CRE Program works with committed organisations and businesses within the region to take a unified stance against family violence, by providing education and a framework for workplaces to implement preventative policies and practices this message will be received through all sectors of the community.

The CRE Program Coordinator role will design, implement and monitor the project across various community settings and will work collaboratively with the CRE Reference Group members and key partners to deliver key elements of the Strategic Plan.

Operational and supervision and support will be provided by Desert Blue Connect, including specialist family violence knowledge, practice and prevention of family violence theory concepts. This position is based in Geraldton and is funded by Desert Blue Connect.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public health/health promotion/social sciences/social work/community development or equivalent tertiary qualifications relevant to project management and community services work.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in the implementation and evaluation of community engagement projects and strategic activities, including grant writing and acquittal.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to build networks and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop and implement community-based initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work with people from cultural, gender and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and facilitation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft products and online communications platforms.
  • Current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check


  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the evidence base guiding the primary prevention of family violence, including the drivers of family violence and the role of primary prevention in policy and practice.
  • Experience working in the area of family and domestic violence intervention or prevention.
  • Understanding of family and domestic violence at risk groups and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop successful marketing and communications strategies.
